A Gallery of Photographs

by John Pritchard

Welcome to JPGallery. John is an amateur photographer who has been taking "serious" pictures since 1971 when he was in the Air Force stationed at Altus AFB, Oklahoma. There was a definite need to express himself artistically in that environment and the top notch darkroom facilities that were provided gave him an impetus to do so. For his first camera, he purchased a medium format (2 1/4 X 2 1/4 inch negative) Yashica Mat 124G, All pictures taken with that camera were in black and white. In July of 1971 he purchased a good quality 35mm camera, the Yashica TL Electro-X ITS SLR, and took both B&W negatives and color slides with it. When he moved to Edwards AFB in April of 1972, he set up his own darkroom where he performed both B&W and color negative work. In 1975 he was discharged from the Air Force and moved back to Marin County, CA where he has lived since. During that period he purchased several Canon EOS cameras and has taken mostly color photographs, slides and negatives. In mid 2003 he purchased his first digital camera, a Canon EOS 10D SLR. Since then he purchased and took pictures with a Canon PowerShot SX210 IS and even with an iPhone.

Over the years he has taken many pictures but only a selected set of them will be shown here. Photographs are presented chronologically by period. Some periods are further broken into sub-periods. Periods and sub-periods are accessed by clicking on the thumbnail picture or the corresponding underlined text link to the right of the thumbnail. If there are no further sub-periods, the group of photographs for that period will be presented with brief descriptions. Links to the parent period page will be provided. Since the file size of each photo generally ranges from 50-100K, a high-speed Internet connection, though not essential, is highly recommended to make viewing more enjoyable. For best presentation, photographs are large enough to generally fill, but still fit in, the browser window as long as the total screen area is 1024 X 768 pixels or denser (maximum dimensions of most photographs are 750 pixels wide and 600 pixels high) and the available browser window has not been reduced substantially.
